INFORMATION - ABOUT THE COMPANY GREEKAFFAIRS

In the middle of the winter, January 14th 1982, my first trip to Greece was planned. My destination for this trip was only Athens, the capital of Greece. Through my study Art and History, which I educated beside my job, I got interesting in the Ancient Greece World. Every time when I saw a picture of the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the small temple of Athena Nike, the painted potteries, the intension to see this all, was getting bigger and more stronger. The Greek community and culture were at this moment not the first subjects. I have had only eyes for the Classical History.
Greece just became a member of the European Union and was at that time just ready to start for a change and a new challenge.
The day of my departure it was snowing heavily and this caused a lot of delays in the air traffic. Late afternoon I arrived at sunny Athens. This was a complete different world for me comparing with snow covered Holland. The first pictures during the landing were Piraeus, Vougliameni and Glyfada and these views were fascinating. Finally the plane landed at the old airport close to the center of Athens. This airport was dark and gave a depressed and stuffiness impression. The opposite were her loud screaming Greek travellers. Their “strange” language was accompanied by frequently moving of the arms and hands and I couldn’t understand anything. The coming days a more closely meeting was planned.
The Ancient World in this metropolis fascinated me enormously: a lot of classical buildings, crowded shopping streets, a huge number of inhabitants and thousands of cars and other vehicles an also mixed up with some green part of the parks. All this together gave me a special feeling, which got more intense every day.
This was not my only visit, more trips followed, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year. It was also not only Athens which I visited more other Greek destinations were visited. The combination of classical history, sun, beach, hospitality and the Greek kitchen gave me a complete satisfied experience which I never would like to miss.
Greece was getting a special place in my heart, for always and forever.
Besides a lot of attention to culture, also the Greek community and the language got my interest. This language was not very easy to learn and after several years there was a new challenge: working in Greece.
Due to my job in the travel agency the way to travel guide or representative was easily done. Together with my business partner, who was in the meanwhile also a Greek freak, we start working in Greece in Mytilini. New plans were created and Greece took a leading part. Our experiences in Greece during our jobs, the many contacts with all kind of accommodations, completed by our warm feelings for this country, were the total inspiration for our business company Greekaffairs.
An affair which started in 1982 came to a complete unfolding by our company Greekaffairs.
